About 15 minutes before I was supposed to leave to drive to Red Lion for this family session it started raining. Hard. Commence inner panic. Are you for real Mother Nature?! Seriously?! Come on!!! I had been keeping a close watch on the radar all day in the hopes that the storms would continue to break up before getting to us. I thought I was totally in the clear for this sunset session…until I wasn’t. After a brief telephone conversation, we decided to carry on with our plans, thinking the rain would be mostly finished by the time I arrived at their house. And, HALLELUJAH!!!, that’s precisely what happened!
As it turns out, my panic was somewhat unfounded because everything ended up working out. Mother Nature made up for the rainstorm by putting on a show in the sky after it ended. The clouds and the sky and the sunlight–oh my! We were graced by a rainbow halfway through the session and the light at the very end of the evening was every photographer’s glowy, golden dream! I got pretty lucky. This family was just as terrific as the weather, I might add!
Five energetic kid cousins kept things lively. A lot of goofy faces were thrown my direction, but I think most people would agree that it is important to capture their true personalities rather than having them stand around like statues at all times. When all else fails, tricking them into playing tag to run off some energy works too! All that mattered was that I was able to get them to all stand still long enough to take photos of the entire extended family and the littles with their grandparents. I’d call that a success. If any grandparents see the results of this session, I can see more of these types of shoots in my future! 🙂
